It is a popular choice for pond enthusiasts looking to add both visual and aromatic appeal to their water garden.

2. Sunlight Requirements: Grassy-leaved Sweet Flag 'Licorice' thrives in partial to full sun conditions. It can tolerate some shade but typically grows best with at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Ensure that your pond receives adequate sunlight for healthy growth.

3. Water Depth: Plant Acorus gramineus 'Liquorice' in water with a depth of 2 to 4 inches. This allows the plant to establish its roots in the substrate while remaining partially submerged. It is well-suited for the shallow edges of ponds and water features.

4. Soil and Substrate: Choose a rich, loamy soil mix for planting Grassy-leaved Sweet Flag 'Licorice' in your pond. Plant the rhizomes directly into the substrate at the recommended water depth. Ensure good contact between the roots and soil.

5. Fertilization: Acorus gramineus 'Liquorice' typically does not require extensive fertilization in a pond setting. The nutrients present in the pond water should be sufficient for its growth. However, if you notice slow growth or yellowing leaves, you can apply a balanced aquatic plant fertilizer following the package instructions.

6. Water Quality: Maintain good water quality in your pond. Regularly monitor and adjust the pH levels to keep them between 5.5 and 7.5. Ensure that your pond water is free from pollutants and toxins to promote healthy growth.

7. Pruning and Maintenance: Grassy-leaved Sweet Flag 'Licorice' is relatively low-maintenance. Trim away dead or yellowing foliage as needed to maintain its appearance. Overgrowth can be pruned to prevent overcrowding and maintain a tidy appearance.

8. Winter Care: This plant is generally cold-hardy and can tolerate freezing temperatures. In colder climates, it may die back in the winter and regrow in the spring. It typically requires minimal winter care.

9. Pests and Diseases: Acorus gramineus 'Liquorice' is generally resistant to pests and diseases in pond environments. However, monitor for signs of aphids or snails and take appropriate measures if infestations occur.

10. Companion Planting: Consider planting Grassy-leaved Sweet Flag 'Licorice' alongside other aquatic plants to create a visually appealing and aromatic water garden. It can provide valuable habitat for aquatic insects and small pond inhabitants.

By following these care guidelines, you can successfully cultivate Acorus gramineus 'Liquorice' in your pond. This aromatic aquatic plant not only adds aesthetic appeal to your pond but also contributes to a sensory experience with its delightful licorice fragrance.
