Berula erecta, commonly known as Lesser Parsnip or Tandpynwortel, is a native aquatic plant that thrives in pond and wetland environments. It is characterized by delicate, finely divided foliage and tiny white flowers that add a graceful and naturalistic charm to your pond.

2. Sunlight Requirements: Lesser Parsnip typically prefers partial to full sun conditions. Ensure that your pond receives at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight each day for healthy growth. While it can tolerate some shade, more sunlight usually leads to better flowering.

3. Water Depth: Plant Berula erecta in water with a depth of 4 to 6 inches. This allows the plant to establish its roots in the substrate while remaining partially submerged. It thrives along the shallower edges of ponds and water features.

4. Soil and Substrate: Choose a well-draining, loamy or clayey soil mix for planting Lesser Parsnip in your pond. Plant the rhizomes or tubers directly into the substrate at the recommended water depth. Ensure good contact between the roots and soil.

5. Fertilization: Berula erecta typically does not require extensive fertilization in a pond setting. The nutrients present in the pond water should be sufficient for its growth. However, you can supplement with a balanced aquatic plant fertilizer if you notice slow growth or yellowing leaves.

6. Water Quality: Maintain good water quality in your pond. Regularly monitor and adjust the pH levels to keep them between 6.5 and 7.5. Ensure that your pond water is free from pollutants and toxins to promote healthy growth.

7. Pruning and Maintenance: Lesser Parsnip is relatively low-maintenance. Trim away dead or yellowing foliage as needed to maintain its appearance. Prune any excessive growth to prevent overcrowding and to promote air circulation.

8. Winter Care: Berula erecta is generally cold-hardy and can tolerate freezing temperatures. It may die back in the winter and regrow in the spring. Minimal winter care is typically required.

9. Pests and Diseases: Lesser Parsnip is generally resistant to pests and diseases in pond environments. However, monitor for signs of aphids or snails and take appropriate measures if infestations occur.

10. Wildlife Attraction: The dense growth of Berula erecta can provide habitat for small pond creatures and insects. It may also attract pollinators like bees with its tiny white flowers.

By following these care guidelines, you can successfully cultivate Berula erecta (Lesser Parsnip or Tandpynwortel) in your pond. This native aquatic plant not only adds a graceful and naturalistic touch to your pond but also contributes to a healthy aquatic ecosystem by providing habitat and shelter for various pond inhabitants.
