🌿 Dark Vines – Natural Beauty for Terrariums & Shrimp Aquariums

Dark vines are highly prized for their twisted shapes, rich dark colour and natural aged appearance. In terrariums, they create an instant "old forest" look, providing structure for mosses, epiphytes and climbing plants while adding a dramatic visual contrast to green foliage.

This is a random pick by our staff of 20kg RAW Dark Vines

In shrimp aquariums, dark vines offer a natural-looking hardscape that mimics submerged roots and branches found in nature. Their intricate surfaces provide grazing areas where biofilm can develop, giving shrimp additional feeding opportunities while creating shelter and hiding places.

Preparing Dark Vines for Shrimp Aquariums:

  • Thoroughly rinse the wood under clean water to remove dust and debris.
  • Scrub with a clean brush if necessary. Do not use soap or chemicals.
  • Soak the wood in a bucket of water for 1–4 weeks, changing the water regularly.
  • If possible, boil the wood for 1–2 hours before soaking to help remove tannins and speed up waterlogging.
  • Once the wood remains submerged on its own and the soaking water stays relatively clear, it is ready for use in your shrimp aquarium.

A small amount of tannin release and white biofilm during the first few weeks is normal and generally harmless to shrimp.
