Care sheet

Ludwigia repens, commonly known as Red Ludwigia, is a popular aquatic plant that is native to North America. It is a vibrant red or pink plant that adds a beautiful splash of color to any aquarium or aquatic garden. Here is a care sheet to help you keep your Ludwigia repens healthy and thriving:

  • Lighting: Ludwigia repens requires moderate to high lighting to thrive. A minimum of 2 watts per gallon of full-spectrum lighting is recommended.

  • Water parameters: Ludwigia repens grows best in slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. The water should be soft to moderately hard, with a temperature between 68-82°F (20-28°C). A nutrient-rich substrate is recommended for optimal growth.

  • Fertilization: Ludwigia repens is a heavy feeder and requires regular fertilization. It is recommended to use a complete liquid fertilizer or root tabs to provide the necessary nutrients.

  • CO2 injection: Ludwigia repens benefits from CO2 injection to promote healthy growth and vibrant colors. A CO2 level of 20-30 ppm is recommended.

  • Water changes: Regular water changes are necessary to maintain optimal water quality and nutrient levels. A weekly water change of 20-30% is recommended.

  • Pruning: Ludwigia repens is a fast-growing plant and requires regular pruning to prevent it from overcrowding the aquarium. Pruning also encourages bushier growth and helps to maintain the plant's vibrant colors.

  • Algae control: Ludwigia repens is susceptible to algae growth, especially if the lighting and nutrient levels are too high. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the aquarium and trimming the plant, can help to prevent algae growth.

  • Compatibility: Ludwigia repens is a great addition to most freshwater aquariums and is compatible with most fish and invertebrates. However, it is best to avoid keeping it with herbivorous fish, such as cichlids, as they may eat the plant.

By following these care guidelines, you can keep your Ludwigia repens healthy and vibrant, adding a stunning visual element to your aquatic environment.
