Aeonium sedifolium:

Light: Aeonium sedifolium prefers bright, indirect light or partial shade. It can tolerate some morning sun or filtered light but may scorch in intense, direct sunlight, especially in hot climates.

Watering: Water Aeonium sedifolium thoroughly when the top inch (2.5 cm) of soil is dry. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings, especially during the dormant period in summer. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows down.

Soil: Plant in a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. A sandy soil with good drainage is ideal. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Temperature and Humidity: Aeonium sedifolium prefers moderate temperatures ranging from 65-75°F (18-24°C). It can tolerate cooler temperatures down to 50°F (10°C) but protect from frost and freezing conditions. Average indoor humidity is usually suitable.

Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced, diluted fertilizer formulated for succulents once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing during fall and winter when the plant is resting.

Propagation: Propagate from stem cuttings. Allow the cuttings to dry and callus for a few days before planting them in a well-draining succulent mix. Keep the soil lightly moist until roots develop.

Pruning: Prune leggy growth to encourage a more compact shape. Aeonium sedifolium can also be pruned for aesthetic reasons to maintain its desired size and shape.

Pests and Problems: Watch for common succulent pests such as aphids, mealybugs, or spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or rubbing alcohol. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal issues.

Potting and Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its container. Choose a slightly larger pot with drainage holes to accommodate root growth.

Special Care Notes:

  • Aeonium sedifolium can go dormant in summer, during which it may drop some leaves. This is normal; reduce watering during this period.
  • Protect the plant from strong winds, which can damage its delicate leaves.

By following these care guidelines, you can help your Aeonium sedifolium thrive and maintain its attractive appearance in your indoor or outdoor succulent garden.
