🌿 Sansevieria 'Moonshine' Care Sheet
 

Common name: Moonshine Snake Plant
Botanical name: Dracaena trifasciata 'Moonshine' (formerly Sansevieria)
Origin: Cultivar – believed to derive from West African species
 

🌞 Light

  • Best: Bright, indirect light to filtered sun.

  • Tolerates: Low light, but may lose its silvery color and darken.

  • Avoid: Harsh midday sun through glass – may cause leaf scorch.
     

💧 Water

  • Watering schedule: Every 2–4 weeks depending on season.

  • Dry out rule: Let the soil dry completely between waterings.

  • Winter: Water sparingly.

  • Tip: Water at the base – avoid wetting leaves.
     

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 18–30°C

  • Minimum: 10°C (Can go lower if protected from frost and cold drafts)

  • Humidity: Low humidity is fine – perfect for indoor spaces.
     

🪴 Soil & Potting

  • Soil: Gritty, well-draining mix (cactus or succulent mix is ideal)

  • Pot: Must have drainage holes – no exceptions.

  • Repotting: Every 2–3 years or when rootbound.
     

🌱 Growth & Propagation

  • Growth habit: Upright, sword-like leaves with stunning silvery-green color. Slow-growing.

  • Propagation:

    • Rhizome division (preferred for Moonshine to keep variegation)

    • Leaf cuttings may revert to greener forms

  • Wipe leaves gently to keep them clean and enhance shine.

  • Fertilize lightly in spring and summer (low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer).

  • Rotate occasionally for even growth.
