🌿 Spathiphyllum Aurea ‘Jet Diamond’ Care Sheet

🔎 Overview

This is a rare aurea (yellow variegated) mutation of the popular ‘Jet Diamond’ peace lily. While the classic ‘Jet Diamond’ displays elegant green-and-white marbling, on random leaves the Aurea form replaces the crisp white with buttery yellow, lime, and soft golden tones, blending into the deep green background.

It has the same resilience and growth pattern of a standard peace lily but offers a warmer, golden glow that makes it highly collectible and unique.

🌱 Growth Habit

  • Size: 40–60 cm tall in typical indoor conditions.

  • Form: Compact, upright clumps with ovate leaves.

  • Growth rate: Moderate, slightly slower than green forms due to variegation.

🎨 Colour & Uniqueness

  • Standard ‘Jet Diamond’: White-to-cream marbling, streaks, and splashes across green leaves.

  • Aurea ‘Jet Diamond’: Variegation shifts into yellow, golden cream, or chartreuse, sometimes with pale green transitions.

  • Variation:

    • Some leaves show bold golden streaks.

    • Others are softly marbled with green fading into lime.

    • Rarely, a leaf may appear almost half golden.

The result is a peace lily with a sunlit appearance, unlike the cooler tones of white-variegated types.

💡 Light

  • Bright, indirect light is best for keeping the aurea tones vivid.

  • Too little light = variegation fades into plain green.

  • Avoid harsh sun which can scorch the yellow parts more easily than green.

💧 Water

  • Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy.

  • Let the top 2–3 cm dry before watering again.

  • Use filtered or rainwater if possible (sensitive to salts and chlorine).

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Temperature: 18–28 °C, no cold drafts below 15 °C.

  • Humidity: 50%+, thrives in bathrooms, kitchens, or with a humidifier.

🌸 Flowers

  • Produces typical peace lily white spathes, though the foliage is the true showpiece.

  • Flowering can be less frequent than plain green forms.

🌱 Soil & Feeding

  • Soil: Loose, airy mix—peat or coco coir, orchid bark, perlite.

  • Fertilizer: Balanced liquid feed every 4–6 weeks in the growing season.

    • Use sparingly—too much nitrogen = less variegation.

✂️ Maintenance

  • Remove any fully green leaves to encourage variegated growth.

  • Wipe leaves often—the golden tones look brightest when dust-free.

  • Repot every 2–3 years with fresh mix.

⚠️ Common Issues

  • Variegation fading → not enough light.

  • Brown edges → tap water sensitivity, overfertilization, or dry air.

  • Weak growth → too many aurea leaves (less chlorophyll). Balance is key.

🌟 Why It’s Special

  • A rare aurea mutation of a much-loved cultivar.

  • Displays warm golden and lime variegation instead of the usual white.

  • A natural “sunshine” plant—adds warmth to any collection.

  • More stable and forgiving than heavily variegated white cultivars, while still exotic.
