🌺 Crucifix Orchid Care Sheet

Epidendrum Species & Hybrids

Crucifix Orchids are among the easiest and most rewarding orchids to grow. They produce tall reed-like stems topped with clusters of brightly coloured flowers and can bloom several times a year under good conditions. Unlike many delicate orchids, Epidendrum orchids are tough, forgiving, and fast-growing.

🌱 Potting Medium

Crucifix Orchids need a very airy, fast-draining medium.

Recommended Mix of Orchid bark + perlite or pumice and or charcoal

 

☀️ Light Requirements

Ideal Light:

Bright light to partial direct sun.

  • Morning sun is excellent
  • Strong light improves flowering
  • Plants tolerate more sun than many orchids

 

🌡️ Temperature

Ideal Temperature:

18°C – 30°C

Tolerance:

  • Short periods down to about 8°C

 

💧 Humidity

Ideal Humidity:

50% – 80%

Good airflow is more important than extremely high humidity.

 

🚿 Watering

Water thoroughly, then allow the medium to become slightly dry before watering again.

General Watering:

  • Summer: 2–4 times weekly
  • Winter: Reduce frequency

 

🌿 Feeding

Crucifix Orchids respond extremely well to regular feeding.

Use:

🪴 Newly Divided Plants

Feed lightly but consistently for best growth and flowering.

 

✂️ Propagation

Division

Large clumps divide easily.

  • Ensure each section has roots and several stems
  • Best done during active growth

Keikis

Many plants produce baby plants along stems.

  • Remove once roots are well developed
  • Pot into fine orchid mix
