Eleocharis dulcis, commonly known as Water Nut, is an aquatic plant that produces edible, nut-like corms. It features grass-like stems and narrow leaves. This plant not only adds a unique touch to your pond but also offers an edible harvest.

2. Sunlight Requirements: Water nut prefers full sun conditions. Ensure that your pond receives at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day for healthy growth. It thrives in bright, sunny locations.

3. Water Depth: Plant Eleocharis dulcis in water with a depth of 6 to 12 inches. This allows the plant to establish its roots in the substrate while remaining partially submerged. Ensure that the corms are planted at the recommended water depth.

4. Soil and Substrate: Choose a well-draining, sandy or loamy soil mix for planting Water Chestnuts in your pond. Plant the corms directly into the substrate at the recommended water depth, spacing them adequately. Ensure good contact between the corms and soil.

5. Fertilization: Eleocharis dulcis benefits from regular fertilization. Use a balanced aquatic plant fertilizer or a general-purpose fertilizer with a lower nitrogen content. Apply fertilizer according to package instructions to promote corm development and growth.

6. Water Quality: Maintain good water quality in your pond. Regularly monitor and adjust the pH levels to keep them between 6.5 and 7.5. Ensure that your pond water is free from pollutants and toxins to promote healthy growth and corm development.

7. Pruning and Maintenance: Water Chestnuts require moderate maintenance. Trim away dead or overgrown stems and foliage as needed to maintain their appearance. Regularly thin out the growth to prevent overcrowding and promote air circulation.

8. Harvesting: The primary attraction of Eleocharis dulcis is the edible corms it produces. Harvest the corms when they reach a suitable size, usually in late summer or early fall. Carefully dig them up, clean them, and store them for culinary use.

9. Winter Care: In colder climates, Chinese Water Chestnuts may die back in the winter and regrow in the spring. Mulch the base of the plant or move potted specimens to a sheltered location to protect them from harsh winter conditions.

10. Pests and Diseases: Water Chestnuts are generally resistant to pests and diseases in pond environments. However, occasional inspection for signs of aphids or snails is a good practice. Treat any infestations promptly with appropriate pesticides if necessary.

By following these care guidelines, you can successfully cultivate Eleocharis dulcis  in your pond. This unique aquatic plant not only adds an interesting touch to your pond but also provides a delicious edible harvest of corms for culinary use.
